Tim's love of timber and his creativity have been with him since he was a youngster but it wasn't until 1998 that he turned to fulltime production.
After a successful period making slab and recycled timber furniture including the outfitting of the Brisbane Airport Coffee Lounge. Stop by if passing through Brisbane Airport to enjoy a cappuccino and admire the Western redgum pieces Tim made in 1999.
Tim felt he wanted to better display Australia's beautiful timbers so at the beginning of 2001, Tim created his first fine furniture pieces. One of the first he designed and built was a rocking chair he made for his wife from 50 year old Australian red cedar.
His flowing and elegant designs proved to be popular with his new audiences and after only a few months into his new direction, he designed and built a unique chair as his first submission to a national woodworking competition. His innovative design not only won, but received the admiration of fellow woodworkers and gallery visitors alike. It was a popular judges' choice with his first class joinery receiving particularly favourable attention.
The obvious pride and love for his work are evident when surveying the finished product. Tim says he aims to combine tradtional with modern styles, while comfort and functionality of each item are very important to him. As he builds each piece with meticulous care, Tim is aware his work must stand the test of time. It is this determination for a high standard of craftsmanship mixed with his timeless designs that will guarantee his ongoing success.
Tim's first award winning piece launched the official introduction of his "Fine Furniture" range leading to a rising reputation for excellent craftsmanship.
In a surprisingly short space of time Tim has managed to produce well resolved designs. Prices for his work are still very reasonable considering the time and skill needed to build pieces of this standard. A good example of this is his Rocker.
While Tim is fast becoming a chair specialist, all his pieces have received favourable attention. These include:
He prefers to use Australian timbers only, including:
Tim sells smaller items such as his jewellery boxes. He has also made more unusual pieces for commission work, such as a decorative courting seat and a Japanese "Seat of Contemplation" for meditation or just simply relaxing "Japanese style" which was built from Australian red cedar.
His pieces are becoming great collectibles and good investments for all who already own a T.O.F.S piece. His work is shown in selected galleries throughout Queensland.
"It is my aim to build gallery standard pieces for future generations to enjoy that will ultimately gain in value for the people who own them.
I feel privileged in being able to love and enjoy what I do while using the gift God has bestowed on me."
