The T.O.F.S. Rocker

Like a lot of other woodworkers worldwide, Tim is inspired by the great North American designer/furniture maker Sam Maloof. The tactile qualities of Sam's famous black walnut rocking chair, along with those of his other exquisitely made furniture, invite all who are fortunate enough to see them at first hand to "touch and try".

Sam's rocking chair provided the basis for Tim's Rocker design which was further developed on his drawing board. Tim has had a similar response from those who have seen his Rocker, an effect which is exactly what he hoped to accomplish with all his pieces.

Like all T.O.F.S chairs, the Rocker is of generous proportions with a sculptured seat and beautifully shaped and carved spindles. The ergonomic design is perfect for those with back problems while the length and curvature of the laminated rockers allows for a soothing, slow rock without the sensation of being tipped forward or falling backwards.

Tim shaped the spindles to suit his own back to ensure correct support and comfort.

The timber has been hand selected to ensure every piece flows together. The joints are hand made, then glued. Critical joints are strengthened with screws.

As with all his work, each Rocker goes through a relentless sanding process after which it is lovingly polished numerous times with Tim's own special oil finish recipe. This protects the timber and produces a glowing warmth to the natural textural features of the timber along with a wonderful silky finish.
