Leather Carving Gouge Roll -

The more traditional toolroll has individual pockets for gouges, in opposing rows along the length of the roll. This leaves the sharp blade edges exposed just under the ends of the roll when fastened but also becomes a trap for any unsuspecting person to slice his/her hand when carrying or packing away the tools at the end of a day's carving or a seminar/workshop sesson.

Ainslie, and other South Australian carvers, have found these leather Bojan Toolrolls, with two tools per pocket and their reinforced flap folded and fastened down over the cutting edges of the gouges, a much safer way of protecting the edges - and the fingers (!!!) from damage.

These rolls will hold 12* carving gouges, or 10, leaving a pocket free for stowing slipstones, drawing pencil, carving knife etc. We recommend that you place a larger diameter handled tool alongside a slimmer one in each pocket - for ease of inserting, and to prevent cutting edges coming into contact with each other.

* Note: Although we will custom-make rolls for more than twelve gouges - we do not recommend this as the weight of the standard roll with a full complement of gouges is relatively easy to handle - far simpler to have a second roll for your additional gouges.
The cost for larger skins suitable for any larger toolroll means our prices have to increase dramatically.
