Intergrain Floortec represents a significant development in coatings technology. It is a 3rd generation air drying water borne urethane co polymer designed for high performance interior use, where a clear tough flexible abrasion and chemical resistant coating is required. Floortec resists yellowing, water and heat and has good adhesion to a wide variety of timber substrates. Floortec has distinct environmental and user advantages in low toxicity and odour, with the convenience of water clean up. Released in 1987 Floortec has been subject to an ongoing product development programme to incorporate the latest development in water-borne polyurethane technology. Floortec is available in satin and gloss in standard and flooring grade, both have identical properties apart from viscosity. Standard Floortec is for general woodwork. Flooring grade has lower viscosity to enable easier maintenance of a "wet- edge" and faster self levelling on large areas and in warm weather. It is unsuitable for vertical surfaces.

| Number of coats: | General work: Minimum of two or more coats
depending on finish required. Benchtops: 4 full coats to top working surfaces, one on underside. Floors: Minimum 3 or more coats depending on timber species and porosity. Approx. 10 - 15 sq mt per litre. NB Lower temperatures and high humidity will retard drying as evidence by a milky blue colour in the coating . New Floortec coated floors should only be walked on with socks or slippers for the 1st 24 hours after painting. |
| Recoating new: | Allow minimum 3 hours drying at 20 degrees Celcius between coats, sand only lightly between coats with 320 grade or finer wet and dry paper or dry-lube type paper. |
| Recoating old intact Floortec | Thoroughly degloss existing Floortec with 240 grit grade paper or finer before recoating. |
| Thinning (Standard Grade Only): | Water at maximum 10% for spray application only. |
| Application Temperature: | Do not apply above 30 degrees Celcius or below 10 degrees C or in direct sunlight or to hot surfaces. |
| Cleanup: | Water. |
PRE-EXISTING FINISHES: Other than Floortec must be removed to leave a clean bare dry timber surface free of dust, dirt, wax, mould and mildew, linseed oil etc. Grey, dirty or water stained timber should be cleaned with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner. Mould and mildew affected timber should be treated with Intergrain TSS * Timber Sterilising Solution after cleaning. Timber to be used in wet areas should be back primed and end-grain sealed with Intergrain Dimension 4 pre treatment to prevent moisture absorption and possible surface staining and cupping. Nail holes, cracks and blemishes should be filled with Intergrain Woodblend wood filler. Linseed oil putty must not be used under Floortec.
*Biocidal wash useful as a general household anti mould and mildew wash for ceramic tiles in kitchens and bathrooms.
New Floors:must be filled with Intergrain Woodblend and sanded
with 180-220 grade sandpaper to achieve a fine, smooth, level finish, free
of sandpaper scratches and blemishes.
Old Floors:all pre-existing finishes must be removed and finished as
for new floors.
IMPORTANT:
Floortec takes up to 7 days to fully cure -
treat surface with care during this period. It is normal for Floortec
to have a slightly milky appearance on application which disappears on
drying.
TINTED FLOORTEC:It is recommended that a coat of clear Floortec be applied as a first coat to seal the timber and allow more even application of the tinted/coloured Floortec.
*No fact sheets to hand at present - this product is a timber polish. See Intergrain main page for ordering details.
Recoating Floors:In order to ensure ease of recoatability with minimum preparation, floors should be recoated before the coating has worn away and exposed bare timber or cork. Wash the floor thoroughly with detergent and lightly sand to remove any gloss before application. Where the coating has completely worn away the only satisfactory method to avoid patchy appearance is to completely sand back to bare timber or cork.
