Exterior Transparent Timber Finish
Intergrain UVC was developed to provide a natural low sheen finish
of maximum durability and protection for exterior timbers under harsh
Australian conditions. It is formulated on an advanced UV curing acrylic
polymer which resists ultra violet radiation, cracking, peeling and fungi
attack whilst retaining long term flexibility.
Released in 1985 and subject to an ongoing product development programme
UVC has earned a reputation
for performance and durability under Australian conditions.
| Colour: | Natural transparent minimal colouration. Note: The UV absorber system in UVC will impart a golden brown tint to light coloured timber species: Test for colour suitability before use. (Special semi transparent colours are available on request.) | |

| Resistance to Chalking, Flaking, Cracking and Peeling: | Excellent. | |
| Recoatability: | Excellent, no sanding required if coating intact. | |
| Fungal/Algal Resistance: | Very good: Suitable for moist and humid conditions. All new or bare timber must be pre-treated with INTERGRAIN DIMENSION 4 PRE TREATMENT prior to applying UVC. | |
| Water Vapour Permeability from Timber Substrate: | Film is moisture vapour permeable allowing transmission of timber moisture to atmosphere. | |
| Weathering Mode: | Surface erosion. | |
| Dried Film Thickness: | At specified brush spreading rate 2 coats .0025"/62.5 microns. | |

|---|---|
| Solvent: | Water. |
| Fungicide/Algicide: | High activity, low toxicity dried film fungicide/algaecide. | Resin Solids: | 39.5% by weight. |
| Total Solids: | 45.4% by weight. | PH: | 8.9 - 9.1 |
| Specific Gravity: | 1.09 Kg/Lt. measured. |
| UV Absorber System: | Synergistic to protect coating and timber substrate. |
| Pigment: | High quality, light fast, UV absorbing, transparent. |
| Method: | Quality long bristle brush, airless, or high-volume low pressure spray. |
|---|---|
| Timber Pre-Treatment: | All new or bare timber must be pre-treated with Dimension 4 prior to applying UVC. |
| Number of coats: | 2 generous coats. Important when first applied correctly UVC will have an opaque, biscuit colour becoming transparent on drying. Do not brush out until clear on application. |
| Coverage: | Roughsawn Timber: approx. 6 - 8 sq. mt. per Lt. Sawn Timber 8 - 12sq. mt. per Lt. Dressed Timber approx. 12sq. mt. per Lt. It is important this coverage is adhered to, in order to achieve adequate film build and design performance. |
| Cleanup: | Water. |
| Thinning: | None necessary. |
| Drying: | Touch dry 33 - 4 hours at 20deg.C full UV curing 30 days. High humidity and lower temperatures will retard drying. |
| Recoating: | Allow minimum 4 hrs at 20deg. C. If convenient and in colder, wet or more humid weather allow overnight drying or up to a maximum of 7 days between coats |
| Application Temperature: | Do not apply above 30 degrees Celcius or below 10 degrees C or in direct sunlight or to hot surfaces. |
WHERE TO USE On new or correctly prepared roughsawn, or dressed exterior timbers inc. cedar, oregon, cypress pine, treated pine, weatherboards, siding, pergolas, fascias, fences. etc. For doors, windows and decking use Intergrain DWD
NOTE: Oily resinous timbers such as cypress pine should be allowed to weather for 4 - 6 weeks followed by cleaning with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner. Where weathering is not possible the timber should be pre-cleaned with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner before painting.
SURFACE PREPARATION: All timber to be coated with UVC must be pre-treated with Intergrain Dimension 4 Timber Pre- Treatment and all non-resinous, non-oily timbers should be pre-treated or coated as soon as possible before, during or after installation to avoid sun and moisture damage and fungal attack. Timber to be coated must be clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, mildew, and linseed oil. Previous finishes must be removed and the timber sanded and cleaned prior to application. Timber that is weathered grey, stained, discoloured, or effected by fungal or algal spoilage should be cleaned with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner. Old timber, after cleaning, or new timber that will be subjected to dampness or high humidity during its service life or that may already be contaminated w ith fungal spores should be treated with Intergrain TSS Timber Sterilising Solution * before repainting.
*This is a biocidal wash for removing mould and mildew from bathroom and kitchen tiles as well as being a general household cleaner. IMPORTANT NOTE: The rounding of sharp timber edges with sandpaper before painting is highly recommended to improve film integrity. In coastal areas wash down timber with clean water to remove salt deposits and allow to dry before painting.
WARNING:Steelwool must not be used to prepare surfaces to be coated with UVC.
APPLICATION:
Stir thoroughly before and during use. Do not thin. Apply 2 generous
coats by brush, airless or high volume low pressure spray.
Avoid over brushing and lay off in direction of grain. IMPORTANT: When
first applied correctly UVC should appear as an opaque biscuit colour.
DO NOT BRUSH OUT UNTIL CLEAR. Product will become transparent on drying.
Do not sand between coats. Allow minimum 4 hours, maximum 7 days between
coats. Do not apply below 10deg.C or above 30 deg.C. Do not apply to
surfaces in direct sunlight or to hot surfaces that will be subjected to
strong sunlight within 4 hours after application. Application under these
circumstances will lead to temperature vapour blisters and poor adhesion.
Lightly dampening timber before painting in temperatures above 25deg.C. will
ease application. Do not apply if rain or dew is expected within four
hours of application. Exposed end grain should be sealed with several heavy
coats to prevent moisture absorption.
MAINTENANCE: Best protection of the timber and ease of maintenance is ensured if Intergrain UVC is recoated before deterioration of the coating allows weathering of the timber substrate to take place. First indication for the need for recoating will be observed as exposure of bare timber on edges and arrises. If timber has become weathered through deterioration of the coating, clean area thoroughly with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner and recoat as for new timber. Weathered UVC can be removed with Intergrain Liquid 8 Paint Remover and power washing where possible.
CAUTION: Keep out of reach of children: Ensure adequate ventilation during use. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
