Intergrain SEAMASTER

High Durability ~ Transparent
Gloss Marine Timber Finish

Intergrain Seamaster Gloss Marine Timber Finish is a durable, transparent, water-based, weather and water resistant gloss coating for all above waterline boating timbers.

Researched, developed and manufactured in Australia, Seamaster is the culmination of several years exposure onboard the beautiful seventy year old gaff rigged ketch "Utiekah 111. (Intergrain gratefully ackonwledge the co-operation of John and Carolyn Mahoney owners of Utiekah 111 in the testing of Seamaster.)

Seamaster represents a radical departure from traditional oil-based marine varnishes which have been superseded both technically and environmentally. Seamaster evolved from the highly successful tried and proven technology of Intergrain UVC and DWD transparent, architectural timber finishes, which, since 1985, have become the benchmark for performance in Australian conditions.

The most important part of a quality timber finish is the resin system. The resin system selected for Seamaster is a microporous (enabling the timber to breathe), partially UV curing acrylic which maintains flexibility throughout its life and achieves outstanding results in comparison to traditional oil-based varnishes which oxidise, become brittle and crack on ageing.

Seamaster incorporates the latest developments in water repellents, UV absorbers and fungicides to further protect the timber from moisture, fungal and UV degradation. Maintenance is easier and less frequent.

Seamaster is available as a clear gloss finish for new timber or with a transparent golden brown to enhance the colour of natural timber, or restore colour to bleached, faded timber. Both are available in a non-slip version for decks.

SURFACE PREPARATION

New bare timber - Ensure surface is clean, dry and sanded to remove nibs and sharp edges. Oily or resinous timbers should be pre-cleaned with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner before painting. New timber should be coated as soon as possible to avoid sun and moisture damage.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED, VARNISHED OR OILED TIMBER- All pre-existing paints, varnishes or oils must be removed, a combination of Intergrain Liquid 8 paint remover, power washing (optional) and final sanding is recommended to achieve a clean bare surface. Bare, weathered, bleached or grey timber should be cleaned with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner.

IMPORTANT:

Timber that may have been affected by salt spray should be thoroughly washed down with fresh water before painting. The rounding of sharp edges with sandpaper is highly recommended to maintain paint film thickness.

WARNING: Steel wool must not be used to prepare timber.

APPLICATION

  1. Stir thoroughly before and during use.
  2. Prime all bare timber surfaces with one heavy, saturating coat of Intergrain Dimension 4 pre-treatment
  3. Apply three generous coats of Seamaster with a quality synthetic or pure bristle brush or Padco applicator. Soaking the brush in fresh water and removing surplus water before painting and periodically washing the brush out at least half-hourly intervals during painting will ensure ease of application.
DO NOT APPLY THINLY, the object is to achieve maximum paint film thickness without sagging or running. Always lay off along the grain and take care to apply sufficient paint film to edges.
  4. Do not sand between coats. Allow a minimum of 4 hours at 20deg C. and a maximum of seven days between coats. In cold or humid conditions allow overnight drying between coats. Do not apply in temperatures above 30deg.C or below 10deg. C.

IMPORTANT

When first applied at the correct application rate the coating will have an opaque, milky appearance which disappears on drying. Do not brush out until clear as insufficient film thickness will result. Do not apply to hot surfaces or surfaces in direct sunlight, doing so will result in difficult application, poor adhesion and blistering. Seamaster takes seven days to fully cure and toughen, extra care should be taken during this period to avoid physical damage. Do not paint if rain is expected within four hours of application. Do not paint timber subject to continuous immersion.

MAINTENANCE: Seamaster is easier to maintain and recoat than traditional marine varnishes. If weathering has exposed bare timber, scrub down the complete area with Intergrain Reviva Timber Cleaner. Spot prime bare areas with Intergrain Dimension 4 and recoat as for new timber. Weathered Seamaster is easily removed with Intergrain Liquid 8 paint remover. Ease of maintenance is ensured if the Seamaster is recoated at regular intervals before breakdown occurs. Touch up damaged areas to prevent water penetration under the coating.

CAUTION:

Keep out of reach of children. Ensure adequate ventilation during use. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
