Tim developed this sanding attachment, to be used chucked in an electric drill, in order to reduce the time spent sanding work on the lathe.

Velcro backed sanding pads are used with an electric drill while the lathe is running at a slow speed. The soft rubber backing pads are flexible enough to allow for adaptation to the shape of the turned project, while the drill with the sanding pad is moved from side to side.

The beauty of this method is the labour-saving time for sanding, while producing an exceptionally fine finish - especially for bowls.
It is recommended that electric drills be set to a variable speed of 1000-1200 rpm - with a LIGHT pressure!

Tim tested all available hook and loop fabrics before settling on the longer hook. This has been found to cope with the demands required of woodturners.

STARTER Kits contain 1 sanding pad, 1 spare hook and loop, with assorted abrasive grits and set of instructions.

Grit sizes are available in the following grades: 60,80,100,150,220,320.

To replace the hook and loop on the pad, cut off the old worn hook and loop using a sharp knife.
Cut close to the old surface to save as much of the rubber as possible.
Glue on the new hook and loop using contact adhesive.

Please Note:
The smaller sized sanding pad is not recommended for lathe work. This was developed after discussions with Ainslie Pyne, who saw the advantages in a smaller version to help her finish sculptures and woodcarvings.
