Ainslie Pyne is the founder and principal of
Australian Wood Artisans Promotions.
Ainslie has been closely involved in the
production and promotion of high-quality wood sculptures for many years.
As an artist, Ainslie has become well-known for having carved the figurehead of the South Australian Sail Training top-sail schooner The One And All. She is also known for carving a life-size statue of The Blessed Mother Mary MacKillop, which is the shrine at the convent of the Sisters of St Joseph at Norwood, South Australia.
During this time, Ainslie became involved in the organizational and promotional aspects of commercial wood carving and gained an excellent reputation for her public relations work and endeavours to promote the work of the many fine Australian woodworking artists.
For five years, she served as president of the South Australian Woodgroup Inc., editing the group's 28-page monthly newsletter. The newsletter became quite popular and was read extensively throughout woodworking guilds and associations in Australia and New Zealand.
In 1992 and 1994, as an adjunct to her role as Woodgroup president, Ainslie instigated, organized, and executed two major national woodcarving exhibitions featuring carvings, marquetry and woodturning/jewellery depicting endangered wildlife of Australia. The 1994 Exhibition was shown in Christchurch, New Zealand as part of a Sister City Project.
Australian Wood Artisans Promotions has now planned a larger scale exhibition to tour the USA. Ainslie hopes to conduct this using the skills and experience she has acquired from her term as president of the SA Woodgroup Inc., her previous public relations work, and her art and craft activities.
In addition to her role as principal of Australian Wood Artisans Promotions, Ainslie is a freelance writer for Guild of Mastercraftsman Publications Ltd. magazines Woodturning and Woodcarving.
